Treating Rhinitis

Treating rhinitis in many ways is similar to treating sinusitis. Decongestants and antihistamines may be prescribed for patients with bronchial asthma who do not experience adverse excessive dryness and "plugging" of the bronchial tubes. A saline nasal mist can help provide moisture to the nasal lining. Intranasal topical corticosteroid sprays (beclomethasone, budesonide, triamcinolone, mometasone, flunisolide, fluticasone) and cromolyn sodium are extremely helpful in treating rhinitis. These agents do not produce excessive dryness and may be preferred over decongestants and antihistamines. Adverse effects of topical corticosteroid nasal sprays include minor irritation or stinging and, rarely, bleeding from the nasal lining. Very Happy.

What are Nasal Polyps?

Nasal polyps are fleshy growths or extensions of the nasal and sinus lining. They are common in patients with bronchial asthma and may occur with or without allergy. They often occur in patients older than age forty who are not allergic but who have severe rhinitis. Common symptoms are constant nasal stuffiness as well as a loss or reduction of the senses of smell.

And/or Taste

The importance of nasal polyps is related to their ability to block the nasal and sinus passages, which may also be the source of poor drainage of sinuses that leads to recurring sinus infections. The presence of nasal polyps in adult patients who are not allergic often identifies a more severe group of asthmatics. This group also has a greater hypersensitivity to aspirin and related medications .

After two painful sinus operations which didn't resolve my problems, I started using pulsating nasal irrigation with a saline solution, and since then my health has improved dramatically. Instead of 2-3 or more sinus infections per year I have had two infections in 7 years, and those only occurred after long 24 hour trips from overseas when my resistance was way down. I used to get colds all the time, but now I watch others with colds and remark to myself how I never get them any more! Needless to say, I'm sold on pulsating sinus asperitatis. (Note- I tried using a Neti Pot, but that method didn't work for me at all. There is something about the fast pulses of water that is particularly effective.)

  • However, I honestly think that everyone should use pulsating nasal irrigation, not just sinus sufferers.
  • It's just a guess, but I would be willing to bet that everyone would eliminate on average one cold per year using pulsating nasal irrigation.
  • At $100 per doctor visit and countless more on drugs, the level of savings would be in the billions.
  • And this is not to mention gains in productivity and avoidance of the misery of living with a cold and resulting sinus infection in many cases.
  • If you find anything extra mentioning about Sinus Infection, do inform us.
  • It is only through the exchange of views and information will we learn more about Sinus Infection. Very Happy

How Most Colds and Allergies Get Started

How do you think most colds or allergies get started in your body? Bacteria, viruses, pollen and other pollutants enter your system through your nose, of course. If you wash all this gunk out on a daily basis, it only makes sense that you'll avoid colds, infections, and allergy attacks.

New Features- Mist Irrigation Attachments for Nose and Throat

The SinuPulse Elite' has some new features besides just normal nasal and throat irrigation. The unit comes with a mist producing irrigation tip which creates mist that can penetrate deeply and soothe nasal passages. It also comes with a mist producing throat irrigation tip and tongue cleaner. This attachment helps soothe the throat and tongue and also helps to remove food particles and bacteria that can cause bad breath. Get more familiar with Sinus Problems once you finish reading this article. Only then will you realize the importance of Sinus Problems in your day to day life.

Of course the standard nasal and throat irrigation tips are also available, and these do most of the "heavy lifting". The mist producing tips can make for additional comfort and relief, but these don't do the whole job and only use about 2 oz. of saline solution. 16 oz. of solution are used with each of the regular tips for nasal and throat irrigation using the SinuPulse Elite'. I personally do nasal irrigation twice a day because that regimen gives me great results. Some allergy sufferers only use the machine during allergy season, and that is all they need and works fine for them. Other people only use it when they feel like a cold is coming on.

The SinuPulse Elite' unit also comes with 30 packets of saline solution, and there is a user guide that explains exactly how to use the machine and how to mix a saline solution just using non-iodized salt if you prefer, rather than purchasing more saline packets. We wish to stress on the importance and the necessity of Sinus through this article. This is because we see the need of propagating its necessity and importance!

You want to improve your health, get yourself a SinuPulse Elite' and use it daily. It feels a little funny at first and takes some getting-used-to (you don't normally have water going into one nostril and out the other), but it is really no big deal. Almost any good sinus book written in the past 5 years recommends nasal irrigation as a must-do to avoid sinus problems.

Skeptical At First

When something works, you are reluctant to change. Just because a new machine came along, I wasn't ready to jump in with both feet. However, my old machine broke down, and I obviously needed a new one. I wanted to stick with "old faithful", but I had to face the fact that this machine was the second one that broke down on me in a little over a year. The machine was very good, but the salt solution I used must have taken its toll. We have gone through extensive research and reading to produce this article on Sinus Survival. Use the information wisely so that the information will be properly used. Evil or Very Mad

New sinus irrigation machine has recently been introduced called the SinuPulse Elite', and I've been using one for several weeks. This article will discuss the machine and the results I've had. Even if you are a stranger in the world of Sinus Problems, once you are through with this article, you will no longer have to consider yourself to be a stranger in it!

Simple and Natural Solution

This is a simple and natural way to avoid colds, allergies, and sinus problems that is inexpensive and highly effective. I spend no more than 5 minutes or so with the procedure each time, and that includes clean up, which is very easy.

Sinus headache symptoms are so common that many people just shorten the phrase to "I have sinus." This can encompass anything from pain around the eyes and nose to runny nose, nasal congestion, watery eyes, sore throat, fever, chills and fatigue. The problem arises when the person sinus allergies and perhaps even migraine headaches. Then the situation is really muddled! Which is it: sinus infections, sinusitis or migraine?

Treatment for sinus infections should come from a medical provider if the fever is over 100.5F and the symptoms have lasted longer than 10 days. Certain antibiotics can be very effective for sinus infections and allergy treatment responds to lifestyle changes and medications. Don't forget smoking! This makes all types of headaches even worse and increases the risk of infections. Sinus headache may also respond to short term use of decongestants and plenty of fluids. Either way, figuring out which type of headache is present is the best way to treat the problem instead of just taking multiple medications in the hope they will help. life is short. Use it to its maximum by utilizing whatever knowledge it offers for knowledge is important for all walks of life. Even the crooks have to be intelligent! Shocked

Another way to differentiate between the migraines and sinus headaches is through a CT of the sinuses or an MRI. If the results show clear sinus with, then the headaches are most probably migraines. Whenever one reads any reading matter, it is vital that the person enjoys reading it. One should grasp the meaning of the matter, only then can it be considered that the reading is complete. Very Happy.

Migraines usually are accompanied by light sensitivity unlike the sinus problems. Another clue is the need to lie down in a quiet dark room and not move around. Many times a migraine is only on one side of the head but sometimes it can be both. The specific medications used to treat migraines, such as triptans will not have an effect on a true sinusitis or sinus infection so that too can help diagnose the headache.

  • Sinusitis is a term for inflammation of the lining of the sinuses and usually is caused by an allergic reaction of some sort.
  • Common culprits are seasonal pollens, such as grass and ragweed, in addition to dust mites and pet dander.
  • Sinusitis can also be caused by colds (viral), impaired immune systems, and even structural abnormalities of the nose and sinuses.

  • Risk factors for sinusitis and therefore sinus headaches also include asthma, and chronic pulmonary (lung) problems such as cystic fibrosis.
  • So what about the migraine debate?
  • How in the world can you tell the difference and know if it is a migraine?
  • Since 40% of all migraines start around the nose and eye it can be a bit confusing.
  • This is made worse by the fact that pseudofed products will treat the nasal congestion that comes with migraine and relieve the headache a bit.
  • But over the long term this is not a good idea as it can increase blood pressure.
  • Thinking of life without Fungal Sinusitis seem to be impossible to imagine.
  • This is because Fungal Sinusitis can be applied in all situations of life.

Allergic Rhinitis Laser Treatment Cure for Chronic Rhinitis Sinusitis

When I first started seeing an ENT specialist years ago for my sinus problems, I purchased a couple of books on the subject of sinusitis. When I mentioned this to my doctor and asked a couple of questions that showed a bit more knowledge of the subject than most people had, he frowned and had a worried look on his face. He then commented that having only 'a little bit of knowledge was dangerous'. I therefore appreciated the comments by Dr. Josephson in his new book entitled 'Sinus Relief Now- The Groundbreaking 5 Step Program for Sinus, Allergy, and Asthma Sufferers'. He stated: 'If your physician responds negatively to your newfound knowledge or is obviously uncomfortable working with a patient who is well educated about his or her disease, it's another clear signal that it's time to move on' (and find another doctor). I wish I had had this advice at that time, as the doctor eventually performed my first sinus surgery, caused me immense pain, and he didn't improve my situation at all. Very Happy.

There are a Number of Things I Was Pleased to See in 'Sinus Relief Now':

1. Dr. Josephson is a sinus sufferer himself. He has undergone sinus surgery, uses the therapies he recommends, and 'knows the feeling'. I got the feeling when reading the book that this person has gone through some of the same pain I have experienced. Rolling Eyes

Dr. Josephson is a surgeon, and he pushes for a very conservative approach regarding turbinates. In the past many surgeons routinely cut out parts or even most of the turbinates in people. In recent years it is becoming apparent that this can have disastrous effects on patients over time, and there are many horror stories to read at the forum of the ENS Association web site. ENS stands for Empty Nose Syndrome, which is the term coined for this condition. Laughing

Dr. Josephson says that smokers with CAID problems simply must quit. He has some appreciation of the difficulty of quitting, however, and offers some guidelines for that as well.

Dr. Josephson strongly emphasizes the use of nasal irrigation. He uses a sinus irrigation device every day, as do I. He also talks about using a neti pot for sinus irrigation, but I've used both and find the irrigator much more effective. I personally would not even recommend the neti pot method. There has been aoma graduate school of integrative medicine to the world of Sinusitis projected in this article. We had done this so that the actual meaning of the article will sink within you. Laughing

The U.S. alone this includes about 70 million people who suffer from sinus disease, asthma, allergies, reflux diseases GERD and LRPD, as well as sleep problems like snoring and sleep apnea. Dr. Josephson believes that all these problems can be related for the simple reason that they all are associated with parts of the body which are directly connected together in the upper and lower respiratory and digestive systems. This is an interesting concept and is explained clearly and thoroughly in the early chapters of the book. Dr. Josephson discusses the symptoms of all these maladies and then offers a CAID test, which helps the reader understand which branch of CAID is causing his problems. He explains symptoms and possible treatment options in great detail for the various 'limbs' of CAID, sinus disease, allergies, asthma, GERD and LPRD, and sleep disorders such as snoring and sleep apnea.

One Point is Made Clear Throughout the Book:

Like high blood pressure, sinus disease cannot be 'cured' in the sense that it is gone once and for all, but it can only be controlled. But with this awareness and being knowledgeable about one's problem, it is possible to control these health issues, and one can improve his or her life and not be forced to 'just live with it'.

Sinusitis Infection May Appear to be a Common Cold When It First Begins

Cold symptoms such as runny nose, cough, and congestion generally exist. Sinusitis cannot be treated with cold medication and if it is in fact sinusitis, it needs to be treated quickly before more severe symptoms occur. Wink

Sinusitis Usually is Caused by a Cold or an Allergy

Swelling of the sinus cavity lining occurs with a cold or allergy. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities, and attack the swollen lining, greater inflammation occurs. The cilia is what usually flushes out the bacteria and mucus but when a great amount of inflammation occurs, the cilia can no longer function and so the bacteria and mucus become trapped in the sinus cavities and as a result the sinusitis infection begins. The title of this composition could be rightly be Sinusitis Therapy. This is because what is mentioned here is mostly about Sinusitis Therapy.

There are several medications and other treatments that are meant to help offer relief for the symptoms that occur with a sinusitis infection. Oral medications such as antibiotics, decongestants, and anti-fungals are commonly used treatments for sinusitis. Oral medications work on infections and by traveling through the blood stream to the area where the infection lies. Oral medications use the blood stream to travel to the area where they are needed, but in the sinus cavities there are only a small amount of blood vessels so only a small amount of the medication can be delivered to the sinusitis infection which generally leads to little or no relief from the treatment. These medications can also cause side effects throughout the rest of the body since they travel through the blood stream and through the whole body.

Aerosolized medications are a newer treatment which also distributes the medications directly into the nasal cavities. Aerosolized medications are used similar to nebulized asthma medications. These antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories are broken down into a small particle size so that it can pass the inflammation and make its way up to the sinusitis infection. Generally a small amount of these medications are used which results in little to no side effects in the rest of the body. We hope you develop a better understanding of Sinusitis on completion of this article on Sinusitis. Only if the article is understood is it's benefit reached.

There are Many Treatment Options for Sinusitis Suffers

Treatments will work different for each person because our bodies are so different and react differently. It's important to know the difference between when you are getting a cold and getting a sinusitis infection and to know what treatments work best for you. Once you are through reading what is written here on Sinus Infection, have you considered recollecting what has been written and writing them down? This way, you are bound to have a better understanding on Sinus Infection. Rolling Eyes

The problems which may occur with acute sinusitis may include cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, headache, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection becomes chronic and lasts for twelve or more weeks, a person can have added problems such as loss of sense of taste and smell and fatigue may also take place. Other symptoms may also occur depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies in. Saying that all that is written here is all there is on Sinus Cavities would be an understatement. Very much more has to be learnt and propagated bout Sinus Cavities.
